There are
basically three types of Solar Panel , Mono
crystalline, Poly crystalline, and Amorphous /Thin Panel..
But in this article I
will talk about only differences about Mono and Poly crystalline...
If you want to ask ,
why you exclude Amorphous .....Answer is the most used and logical choice for Solar household
System as well as other big Solar Projects are Mono and Poly crystalline ...and why they are the best choice...... read
below...
To choose which is the
best solar panel we nee to compare between them....
Mono crystalline Panels:
Mono crystalline Panels:
Solar cells made of mono crystalline silicon (mono-Si), also called single-crystalline silicon
(single-crystal-Si)
Mono crystalline silicon
(mono-Si) solar cells are more efficient and more expensive than most other
types of cells. The corners of the cells look clipped, like an octagon, because
the wafer material is cut from cylindrical ingots, that are typically grown by
the Czochralski process. Solar panels using mono-Si cells display a distinctive
pattern of small white diamonds.
You can recognize Mono Crystalline Solar plane by just seeing
them, it is like love at first sight.
you see those red rectangle on the plane in the left picture which
showing you the differences that Mono crystalline does have compare to other
solar panel is the diamond shaped look... there will be always those diamond
looking dots between cells in the Mono Crystalline Solar Panel....
Mono Crystalline Panels are high in efficiency comparing to other
Solar Panels....The efficiency rates of mono crystalline solar panels are
typically 15-20%..Since these solar panels yield the highest power outputs,
they also require the least amount of space compared to any other types. Mono
crystalline solar panels produce up to four times the amount of electricity as
thin-film solar panels...Mono crystalline solar panels live the longest.
Most solar panel manufacturers put a 25-year warranty on their mono crystalline
solar panels.Tend to perform better than
similarly rated poly crystalline solar panels at low-light conditions...
*Mono crystalline solar panels are the most expensive. From a
financial standpoint, a solar panel that is made of poly crystalline silicon
(and in some cases thin-film) can be a better choice for some homeowners...
* If the solar panel is partially covered with shade, dirt or
snow, the entire circuit can break down...
Poly crystalline Panels:
The
first solar panels based on poly crystalline silicon, which also is known as
poly silicon (p-Si) and multi-crystalline silicon.. Unlike mono
crystalline-based solar panels, poly crystalline solar panels do not require
the Czochralski process. Raw silicon is melted and poured into a square mold,
which is cooled and cut into perfectly square wafers.
The
Picture in the right is showing you the array of Poly Crystalline solar panels
, if you see the green rectangle you will see there is no diamond dots in
between poly crystalline cells....Very easy to recognize....
The Process of used to make poly
crystalline silicon is simpler and cost less.
The amount of waste silicon is less compared to mono crystalline... 😯😯😯
*Efficiency
of poly crystalline-based solar panels is typically 13-16%. Because of lower
silicon purity, poly crystalline solar panels are not quite as efficient as
mono crystalline solar panels.
*Lower space-efficiency. You
generally need to cover a larger surface to output the same electrical power as
you would with a solar panel made of mono crystalline silicon. However, this
does not mean every mono crystalline solar panel performs better than those
based on poly crystalline silicon.
Note : Both Mono Crystalline
and Poly crystalline has proved that they are quite home efficient solar
panels, but people who thinks about saving money with best quality possible
,they should go deeper in the theory...
so if you analyze the performance of both solar panels , you
will find they don't have much differences when you use them in small projects
like house hold 100W~500W, but when you think about higher projects
like 1000W or above system or mini grid system, it becomes more critical
because then question is more difficult to answer whether go for cost or go for
quality & space more....so advice is if you want to set up solar home
system which is like 100W~500W, I recommend you to go for poly crystalline
solar panels because you will save more money than the total power differences
compare to mono crystalline performance will not affect much....but if this a
question about a system which is greater than 1000W, then I recommend that you
see your budget to do the best because then the cost & space &
performance will give you a tight thought...
If
you have good budget then go for mono crystalline and if you have lower budget
then go for poly crystalline....
